Daimler Conquest Roadster

The Conquest is held in high esteem as the last true Daimler saloon as subsequent Daimlers were all Jaguar based, and this one is the very rare roadster version. How rare? Well between 1953 and 1957 only 65 found owners possible due to the 4 seat Drop head being far more popular. What’s more surprising is that 39 are still in existence.

This was also the first “sports car” built by Daimler and was fitted with a 2433cc, 6 cylinder engine producing 100bhp which would get you up to 100mph. Having seen one in the flesh so to speak, all that chrome work on the front and its low slung stance really make you take a little more time walking past. I love some of the details the “D” incorporated into the middle of the bumpers, the lack of door handles, that huge boot and its profile that always looks like someone’s just buried the accelerator even when it’s stood still.
