Maserati 5000 GT

With only 32 car built it’s surprising that it came with a variety of body styles from various coachbuilders, namely Touring who built the first two, then Carrozzeria Allemano who built a further 22. The rest of mainly one-off builds also included Pietro Frua and Pinnafarina.

Built between 1959 and 1965, these were as you’d expect, very expensive GT/sports cars with a price tag of some $17,000. For that money thought you got exclusivity and everything you’d expect from a performance machine. The pre 60’s car were fitted with a 5ltr V8 with four 45 Weber’s churning out 350bhp through a 4 speed gearbox. From 1960 the Weber’s were replaced with fuel injection, however the power dropped to 340bhp.

The one below is a Carrozzeria Allemano injection version and it was something to behold. That deep blood red flawless paint, wrap around fastback window and its perfect stance. You could just imagine it tearing across Europe on its way to Monaco and the owners waiting yacht.
