Ghia Selene

This caught my eye due to its resemblance to the Renault 900 concept that was built in the same year, with the forward control/ rear engine layout. This though was built by styling house Ghia in 1959 and penned by stylist Tom Tjaarda.


The seating was arranged in three rows, with the rear ones facing each other and driver hung out well ahead of the front wheel in the aerodynamic cabin. No engine was ever fitted to the rear so unfortunately it never actually ran. You have to admit it’s a strange and awkward looking thing.

Again like the Renault, there’s not much information about the car apart from it travelled to Moscow in the early 60’s, although a second more streamlined and better proportioned Selene II was built in 1962.
