Car Show: Alltypes, Bodelwyddan Castle

An overcast Sunday in north Wales walking round a Volkswagen show what could be better and the Alltypes show has something for everyone from Aircooled to retro and 90’s to modern. Throw into the mix rat-look, air-ride and lots of vans what more could you want.

Seat Raider / Anibal Podadera

With Seat’s first fully independently designed and built car from Fiat, the Ibiza in the bag and selling well Spanish Francisco Podadera proposed a coupe version to take in the Toyota MR2 and Fiat X1/9. Not only did he propose it he also built prototype, which apart from having its rear roof and seats removed also had a severe nose job that added those much needed 80’s pop up lights and 6”. As you can see the body was also seriously re-worked and replaced with fiberglass.

VWNW 2013

It’s the first weekend in August which in the northwest of England means its Volkswagen Northwest and the early start to a Sunday morning. I was there for the day as I had arranged the Scirocco Register’s club stand so had plenty of time to take it all in. Well if the rain that was forecast held off.

Like previous years (2012, 2011, etc) there were club areas, concours area, auto jumble, for sale area and general sales for anything from tools and parts to plants and cupcakes.

Awesome and Detailed Summer Bash

With this event being so close, as well as me getting some work done there in the past on my Scirocco, I had virtually no excuse for not popping over to this at Awesome's work shop. In fact for those don't know Awesome specialise in modifying and customising anything from the VAG family album, and this was its annual open day.

1953 SEAT 1400

There are some cars that when you think about them you can’t see further back than say a 20 years. SEAT must be one of these, most people if they can remember, think the MK1 Ibiza was were it all started in 1984. SEAT only really went mainstream in peoples minds when it was enveloped into the Volkswagen machine and it became the middle tier between VW and Skoda. Using all the know how and chassis from VW but putting a much more daring body on them. But SEAT have been round since 1950, giving the marquee more history and credit than most people realise. The 1400 was the first car built at the new plant near Barcelona. It was based (as were most of the early cars) on a FIAT. In reality the 1400 was a Spanish assembled FIAT 1400, with most of the components shipped to the FIAT factory in kit form and a SEAT put on it. This could have been due to Spain at this time being a Communist state and therefore having restrictions on imports/exports at the time. This must make it one of the rarest European produced cars around. I mean have you ever seen one!!!!
