Panther Rio

Okay you take a Triumph Dolomite, do some tweaking to the body including adding a new Rolls Royce inspired nose, add some luxury (electric windows all round, individual cigar lighters and leather) and soundproofing and what do you get? the Rio. The market for this car was those wanting luxury but now having to look after the pennies due to the uncertainty around the oil crises when it was released in 1975.

Panther Solo

British built mid engined supercar, with pop up lights and built in exclusive numbers, Jaguar XJ220 is what your thinking hey, but a small manufacturer was also at it. Panther in Waybridge England, then owned by a Korean businessman, produced this 2 seat coupe, later the series 2 was a 2+2, between 1989-90. The Series 1 was powered by a 1.6ltr Ford engine from the XR2 running through the permanent 4 wheel drive system.

1977 Panther 6

Inspired by the 6 wheel Tyrrell P34 Formula 1 car, Panther produced what was clamed to be the first production car that would do over 200mph. The power came from a 8.2ltr twin turbo V8 producing 600bhp. This car was not all power though, it came with electric everything including the dash, a TV and even a phone, this was back in 1977!!!!! It also had on board inbuilt fire extinguishers and carried 2 spare wheels well the front 4 wheels were a different size to the rears. Only 2 cars were produced , one in black and one in white before production was ceased. This car still has descendants today that I will be picking up in coming articles.
